About Us
First a bit about how we got started and who we are...
On April 1, 1976 Ray and Brenda Andro and their three children, Chris, Michelle, and Jason founded Hemlock Hill Camp Resort in Litchfield Connecticut. Although many changes have transpired over the years the resort is still in full operation today. Hemlock Hill R.V. Sales was a natural outgrowth of the camp resort. The company first started with five Nomad travel trailers in May of 1985, selling and servicing from the camp property. The dealership grew rapidly. By 1989 with no room left at the camp for the growing inventory, the company moved to a new facility on the Litchfield and Torrington town line at exit 42 just off Route 8. The business expanded to a second location on Route 7 in New Milford in September of 1994. We have since sold the New Milford location. In 1999 we opened our location in Berlin on the Berlin Turnpike, occupying the former Rent'N RoamCampers Marketplace building. In less than two years, we have outgrown the Berlin location and moved to a much larger facility in Southington. The facility is just off Exit 28 on Interstate 84 and was formerly occupied by Belle Camperland. We have since consolidated all locations to this 17 acre facility. Although we have grown over the years, we are still family owned and operated. To date there are four Andro's working in the family business along with many dedicated employees. Our 2007 Fall Camp-Out and Jamboree to benefit the Make-a-Wish Foundation of Connecticut has come and gone. We all have wonderful memories from such a great weekend. We had a terrific parade and concert by the ST. PETER’S DRUM CORPS OF TORRINGTON, CONNECTICUT, a great bingo game on Friday evening with prizes worth thousands of dollars, an incredible auction on Saturday put on by the FAMILY CAMPERS AND R.V.’S CAMPING CLUB where over $11,000.00 was made. Saturday’s events also included a great BIKE RODEO sponsored by BLUE OX SYSTEMS where over 55 kids participated. During the weekend we had delicious food prepared by the employee volunteers of HEMLOCK HILL RV under the direction of head chef BRENDA ANDRO. Friday pizza and Saturday’s breakfast and lunch were expertly prepared by THE FOLD AND GO CLUB OF NEW ENGLAND under the direction of CAROL TURCOTT. To top things off, Mother Nature granted us a terrific summer like weekend.
As you may know, The Make-a-Wish Foundation grants wishes to children between the ages of 3 and 18 who suffer from a life threatening condition. These wishes always include parents and siblings of each child who is granted a wish and can cost up to $6000.00 and more.
This year because of the generosity of all our vendors and friends and of all the people who attended the event we were able to raise a record $31,000.00. When we combine that with the $5000.00 graciously donated by the campers and staff of WHITE PINES CAMPSITES IN WINSTED, CONNECTICUT our grand total is $36,000.00. It is because of the kindness and generosity of campers from all over Connecticut and several other states that a wish child, even in the mist of adversity, can smile when he or she learns that his or her wish has been granted. As one dad stated: “When I told her that she was going to Disney World, she had a smile on her face that went from ear to ear. That was the first time she smiled in a long time.”
Our TENTH ANNIVERSIRY Camp-out will be held on September 19-21, 2008 at the TERRYVILLE FAIRGROUNDS in Terryville, Connecticut. Those who wish to check in early on Thursday the 18th may do so at an extra charge. We hope to see you there. It promises to be our best event ever.
